A Lyle Saxon Reader Wins Second Place in 2019 IndieReader Discovery Awards for Fiction

IndieReader.com announced on June 1 that Cultured Oak Press’ recent book, A Lyle Saxon Reader: Lost Stories of the French Quarter and Buried Treasure, has won second place in the 2019 IndieReader Discovery Awards (IRDA) in the Fiction category.

In describing the award, IndieReader reported, “Saxon’s unsparing, yet humane exploration—and celebration—of New Orleans and surrounding regions evokes the city’s swirl of poverty, essential strength, and ecstatic hedonism.”

Unseen Since 1923

A Lyle Saxon Reader published in September 2018. It contains a series of stories written by author Lyle Saxon and published in the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper in the early twentieth century. The works were collected, curated and edited by James Michael Warner. Almost all of the stories in the book had been unpublished since their original appearance in 1919-1923.

“I’m very grateful to IndieReader.com for awarding this prestigious recognition, and to IndieReader founder Amy Edelman for all of the work she has put into supporting independent publishers like the Cultured Oak Press,” said Warner. “It’s wonderful that Lyle Saxon’s writings still generate such recognition seventy-three years after the author’s death.”

Announced at New York’s BookCon

The IRDA winners were announced Saturday, June 1, by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout at BookCon in New York city.

After A Lyle Saxon Reader published in 2018, it received numerous positive reviews. It can be ordered at local book stores and online.
